About

Based in Oxfordshire, David Evans and his team of experienced coursebuilders travel nationally and internationally to build and design cross country courses.

David and his dedicated team, headed up by Carl Fletcher and Mike Pope, build for designers including Captain Mark Phillips, Ian Stark, and Mike Etherington Smith.

Evansjumps built the Mike Etherington Smith-designed cross country course for the Olympic event in Hong Kong in 2008 and are in the process of building the Derek Di Grazia-designed course in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics.

Building on his nearly 30 years of cross country coursebuilding, David now spends more of his time on design work. Notable for his design for the British Eventing flagship Blenheim International Horse Trials tracks since 2018, David also designs the Central Scotland Horse Trials at Dalkeith, Alnwick Ford in Northumberland and Somerford in Cheshire.

With a little bit of help from friends and family, Evansjumps coursebuilders Mike Pope and Carl Fletcher construct, maintain and dress cross country courses for numerous high profile international horse trials. See our Design and Build page for more details.

Evansjumps build the xc courses at Chatsworth (desgined by Ian Stark and David Evans), Bramham (designed by Ian Stark), Luhmulen (designed by Mike Etherington Smith), Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing (designed by Captain Mark Phillips) and Blenheim (designed by David Evans).

David and his team at the forefront of cross country course building, having been closely involved in bringing the safetly of horse and rider into course building and xc jump design. In 2012, David was awarded the British Eventing Bill Thompson Trophy for his modernising approach to cross country course building.

Evansjumps have considerable experience of designing and constructing first and foremost for the safety of horse and rider. Whilst many Evansjumps portables grace high status international events, the same designs can be scaled down to suit horses and riders of all abilities. Alongside thier seasonal round of cross country course building, Carl and Mike construct and install portable xc jumps for private individuals, training courses, pony clubs and horse trials at home and abroad.

Many Evansjumps cross country courses incorporate carved logs and animal sculptures carved by David Evans; dragons and bears, stags and owls, ducks and dogs are illustrated on our Carvings page.
