David Evans and Richard Taylor design and build cross country courses and portable cross country jumps. Their scope of work includes everything from supplying portable schooling jumps to building, dressing and maintaining cross country tracks for high profile international three day events. This page outlines and provides links to cross country courses that we design and build.
Over the course of a 12 month season, David Evans, Richard Taylor and their indefatigable team manage to fit in around 15 horse trials in the UK and abroad. The highest status of these include (please follow the links to visit our pages for each event) Chatsworth CIC3* in May, closely followed by Bramham CIC3* & CCI3* in June, Luhmuhlen CCI 3 & 4* (also in June) and rounded off in September by Blenheim Palace CIC and CCI 3*.
David, Richard and their teams involvement at different horse trials varies considerably. For some smaller events the design and initial build and or supply of portables is backed up by a few days dressing immediately before individual horse trials run. At others, major or minor groundworks and ground preparation take place at intervals all year round in accordance with the wishes of course designers and landowners.
David and Richard run their own one day event at Swalcliffe Park in Oxfordshire. The course is designed by David Evans and built by David, Richard and thier team. They also take care of the organisation of the event, assisted by a hardworking team of family, friends and an army of volunteers!
At the larger events, David, Richard and thier team work with course designers such as Ian Stark, Captain Mark Phillips, Eric Winter and others, alongside organisational committees, landowners, estate workers and other helpers. David and Richard's roles vary at such events, some including site and track management alongside course building, groundworks and the dressing and other preparations which take place in the lead up to the horse trials. Whatever their involvement, David, Richard and thier team muck in (whatever the weather throws at them!) to make sure everything comes right on the day!
David, Richard and thier team built the Mike Etherington Smith designed cross country course for the Olympic event in Hong Kong in 2008- Read about the preparations for an olympic event and 'walk' the 2008 course!
